Taking the fight to the enemy
As the fading light catches the clouds, Vickers Wellington medium bombers leave England for an operation in occupied Europe. The Wellington was the mainstay of RAF Bomber Command's effort in WWII until superseded by bigger, four-engined aircraft. Wellingtons made up about 60% of the first 1,000-bomber raid on Cologne in 1942.
