Mallorca coast north from Torre Picada
Lower left is the last place that pirates from North Africa landed on Mallorca in 1561, to attack the town of Sóller. They were in turn attacked and defeated as they withdrew after sacking and looting. The locals eventually built a chain of watchtowers including, in 1623, Torre Picada from which this view was made. In the centre is the striking rock pinnacle of the Penyal Bernat de S'Illeta.
