A portrait of Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1a R6596, portrayed in August 1940 configuration as QJ-S of No 92 Squadron RAF as flown by Allan Wright. This Flight Artworks realisation uses contemporary evidence on such things as the unusual fuselage roundel to produce a more accurate rendition than is often found. Please contact me if you have other or contradictory information.
All Wright's aircraft were coded QJ-S. This one, production number 686, was built at Eastleigh in May 1940 and assigned to 92 Squadron on 4 June, when Wright first flew it. It was shot up in a fight with Me Bf 109s on September 9 and "damaged enough to warrant extensive repairs".
