C-47 Skytrain over the Channel B&W version
Douglas C-47A Skytrain 43-30652 with the W7 identifier and "invasion stripes" it carried on D-Day, 6 June 1944, when it left RAF Cottesmore, England, as part of the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron. This was lead ship in the second wave of the US airborne invasion, dropping elements of the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division on Drop Zone O near St Mère Eglise. Their commander, Lt. Col. Edward C. Krause, jumped from this airframe.
