An RAF Hurricane night fighter sets out on a dusk patrol in 1942. This depicts Hurricane Mk IIc BE634, coded ZY-V with 247 Squadron, which was based at the time in Exeter in Devon. The squadron used half size roundels and code letters over their black camouflage.
My picture was commissioned to accompany an article in the 2020 RAF Memorial Flight Club Yearbook. The flight's Hurricane PZ865 is being transformed to represent this aircraft - including having night flying ‘blinkers’ installed above the engine exhaust stacks, as shown here. These were fitted to wartime night fighters in an attempt to avoid the bright exhaust flames ruining the pilot's night vision.
