Douglas C-47A Skytrain 43-30652 - better known as "Whiskey 7" for the W7 identifier it carried on D-Day, 6 June 1944, when it left RAF Cottesmore, England, as part of the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron. W7 was lead ship in the second wave of the US airborne invasion, dropping elements of the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division on Drop Zone O near St Mere Eglise. Their commander, Lt. Col. Edward C. Krause, jumped from this airframe.
