322 Squadron Polly Grey Spitfire TD322

My depiction of Spitfire Mk XVI TD322 bearing the markings of 3W-M of 322 (Dutch) Squadron, based at ALG B-106, Twente, in the Netherlands, in the spring of 1945. TD322 served with the squadron to the end of the war and beyond, flying armed reconnaissance missions and attacking ground targets. ..Like the unit's other aircraft it had the Dutch orange inverted triangle painted beneath its port windscreen quarter light. It also had nose art on the port engine cowling of the squadron mascot, Polly Grey, a red-tailed grey parrot, perched on a hand with the thumb raised. ..This was a commission for the RAF Memorial Flight (BBMF), whose Spitfire TE311 is being painted in these markings.
